Before you start the extra work

Put it in writing: describe exactly what changes, and why
Price it: labour, materials, margin and GST shown separately
State the time impact in days, even if it is zero
Get the owner's signature and date before work starts
Number every variation (CV-01, CV-02…) and keep the signed copy
Add the agreed amount to your next progress claim
